Supersize Me

I can’t help it. I’m fascinated by all things out-of-scale. As a kid, I made miniature versions of everything. But when I started making theatrical props, I realized I loved gigantic versions of little things, too. At Santa Fe Opera, I made a platter of four-foot lobsters, a ten-foot ink pen, and a model of ancient Rome (which took three weeks to make and was onstage for less than a minute!). And for my friends at Bette’s Diner in Berkeley, I made a pancake, a wedge of pie, and a slice of pizza—all about 10 times larger than life.
