Choral Imperative
I’ve been singing in choirs for years, and for the last decade, I’ve been thrilled to be part of the revered California Bach Society under the direction of Paul Flight. We sing mostly early music, but also lots of later gems, and the choir has a pure, clean sound that’s lovely and moving. Between preparing the music and rehearsing, it’s a major time commitment, but I love the whole process, and I’m unashamedly addicted to the physical and mental rush that levitates humans when they make magic with nothing but the harmony of their own voices. Here’s a clip from our Saint Matthew Passion, recorded live in 2018.
I was part of this sweet song of hope, It is Everywhere, in 2020. It was written and conducted by Mitchell Covington and performed by a virtual choir of 99 singers from around the world.
And here’s another virtual-choir piece, White Horses, by Gwyneth Walker, set to a text by e. e. cummings, performed by members of Chora Nova, under the direction of Paul Flight.
